Background

Maria (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Social Work Associate (LCSWA) and a Psychotherapy Training Fellow at CAS. Maria has experience providing care to people of all ages struggling with eating disorders, self-esteem, depression, anxiety, life transitions, homelessness and substance abuse. Maria has worked in a variety of settings, from inpatient hospitals and eating disorder treatment centers to community organizations.  She earned her Bachelor os Science in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her Master of Social Work Degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. Maria is a native Spanish speaker and is ready to provide therapy in both English and Spanish.  

 

Philosophy

As a practitioner, Maria aims to walk alongside you through recovery, offering the musings that help guide the way. She believes therapist and client are a team and she aims to provide the affirming space to reach the goals her clients set for their future selves. While prioritizing the individuality of her clients, Maria utilizes insight oriented and evidence-based practices such as Family Based Therapy (FBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Relational-Cultural therapy to help her clients.  

 

Joy

Maria finds joy in reading, caring for her many plants, going to the movies and spending time with her family and her nine-year-old Chihuahua, Sophia. 

 

Maria sees clients in our SW Durham and RTP offices and by Telehealth.
